Re: [SLE] RE : [SLE] Remote X Sessions
Steve,
I know it works but I found Hummingbird difficult - I got completley lost
trying to connect to my SuSE box with it. I am not blaming the product - I
am sure it is me ;-) - I have heard many say it is excellent. I just did
not understand it.
Can I fish for any pointers on how to set up a simple XDMCP or SSH
connection vie Humm? I use Cygwin at the moment but have access to
Hummingbird licenses and application so I would like to use it.

You're going to need to install an X server for windows, perhaps the one in cygwin? After that, I think the ssh client in cygwin will do it for you

Hello.... I seem to have conveyed the wrong information. I already have a terminal emulator running on my windows PC, it's called reflection, and it works very well. My question is whether such a client exists on the Linux platform. I find out that when I am running linux on my pc and I want to connect graphically to another unix server on my network, I have to shutdown KDE, and connect through the text interface (X-query <servername>). It also means I can't do other things at the same time (surf the web, check email). Thanks Regards Bona --- jonathan_hughes@goodyear.co.za wrote:

Reflection-X, X-Win32 and Hummingbird Exceed are good X servers for Windows.

On Linux you may (i) start another X server, (ii) use the nested X server Xnest, or (iii) use VNC.
I find out that when I am running linux on my pc and I want to connect graphically to another unix server on my network, I have to shutdown KDE, and connect through the text interface (X-query <servername>).
You don't have to stop your current X server. Switch to a text console (e.g. Ctrl-Alt-F2), log in, and start a new X-server: X :1 -query <servername> Switch between them via key combinations Ctrl-Alt-F2, Alt-F8, Alt-F9, ... -- A.M.
