Wine is supposed to allow you to run Windows programs such as Word or Excel or Photoshop or other Windows-based programs from within Linux. I've only got notepad and a couple other programs to work. Once you get it setup, you should be able to type "wine notepad.exe" and it will open notepad in Linux. If anyone out there is an expert on Wine, let me know please. Right now I'm using W2k at the office (Linux at home) and would like to go full-time to Linux, but I need a couple essential programs from Windows...ACT!, Frontpage, and some Adobe products. I have purchased CodeWeavers CrossOver Office, and have gotten Word, and Excel to run well. I got ACT! 2000 up and running, but there are a few bugaboos. If you want to be able to use ACT in Linux, email them at sales@codeweavers.com and ask them to add this to their list of desired products to support. From what they tell me, not many people have requested ACT!, so it isn't tops on their proprity list. Personally, if this would run well, a LOT of people would migrate to Linux. So, hassle the crap out of them (in a nice way, of course!) Harry G On Tuesday May 14 2002 04:43 pm, Tom Nielsen wrote:

wine). They sent me a script to correct this.
I purchased Crossover Office and was able to run MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. I was unable to run Outlook (although I don't intend to). http://www.codeweavers.com). Codeweavers will be releasing their 1.0.1 maintenance release is in the final stages. I had 2 problems: 1. After install the symlinks were not set (eg. winword->win, powerpnt- 2. The icons for MS Office were not created. Again, they sent me a script to correct the problem. Both if these problems are minor. I use PowerPoint for my classroom presentations because I prefer it to Star Office (2 reasons, first is that I don't like the Star Office Fonts and second, when stopping in the middle of a slide show, in Power Point, you can restart where you left off, and SO you go back to the beginning). Both my desktop and my laptop run Linux. I keep Windows as a dual boot on my desktop mainly for trouble shooting problems with my cable modem ISP. On 14 May 2002 at 13:43, Tom Nielsen wrote:
