These are configurable, but perhaps they changed the defaults. Right click on the task bar, and select "Configure Task Manager" Then click on "Behavior". I don't think you should have to, but I'm not certain. First try setting the sort to some other choice, maybe try "manual" to see if that works, then set it back to alphabetical. Seriously? It's that object at the bottom of your screen, where you can switch between applications with just a mouse click, and start new ones with only 2 or 3 of them -- or just one, if you add a link to an app into the object.
