[opensuse] 3G Cards And Vodaphone South Africa
Hi People Maybe some of you can help me here. I got a e220 Huawei Modem 2 days ago and would like to use it. My first problem was that when I plugged it into the computer it picked it up as a CD ROM. Basically Vodafone packages the drivers as a sort of Autoplay function for the windoze people. I installed a "device" rule which allowed me to see the Modem. I ran Kppp setup the modem and used the modem terminal to actually talk to it. I could successfully send my pin number and check signal strength. So far so good.... then I setup the account. When I connect with Kppp it connects then dies with an error stating Protocol-Reject for 'Compression Control Protocol' (0x80fd) received. I phoned the helpdesk. Waited 15 minutes and was told that Vodafone does not support Linux. So armed with this I just went through the account settings and made sure that everything is fine. Well my account is setup correctly and my modem is responding. Anyone out there have any ideas? First, try to connect to your modem using minicom and see if it responds (e.g use 'AT' and you should receive an OK). Use 'wvdial' to connect your modem to your ISP. You need to configure /etc/wvdial.conf. Personally, I prefer to use Yast to configure my modem. On Wednesday 11 June 2008 10:43:57 Cornelius Franken wrote:

Hi Dave Yeah I have joined the forum this morning. Busy reading. Most of the threads are discussing wvdail and I am looking for a KPPP type solution but I can easy switch between the two. Ye, cat the whole thing, also attach your config files (for kppp), or atleast what you have entered in the GUI. I have used that device with no prob on 10.3 and MTN network. You might also want to have a look at http://www.pharscape.org and at http://umtsmon.sourceforge.net I am using umtsmon with Vodafone using a Sierra Wireless card and it works perfectly well. Regards, Paul. On Thursday 12 June 2008 11:47:17 Cornelius Franken wrote:
