Thanks! I thought I was going nuts (especially considering my recent goof on the ATI != nvidia thread :)

Does anyone know when there will be a fix for this? Also what would happen if one compiled the SuSE SRPM I wonder... That brings me to another question. I've compiled KDEBASE from scratch and installed over the top of the SuSE files, and it didn't fix it. I'm doing KDELIBS now, will let you all know how it goes. I do know that if I remove the /opt/kde2 directory, and recompile/reinstall 2.2 final from scratch, javascript works just fine.. so it'll be something in there somewhere. Ok, I figured it out.. and it makes absolutely no sense.. I created a new profile called "webbrowsing2", and pointed it's start page to www.apple.com/macosx, which was one of the pages that would cause Konqueror to segfault. I modified the properties behind the Konqueror icon to use webbrowsing2 instead of webbrowsing, and launched the app. No errors at all... loaded the site with full javascript support. I then repointed webbrowsing2 to about:konqueror, and relaunched the app. When I immediately go to the same web page, it segfaults. So it appears that it has something to do with starting at about:konqueror, rather than starting at a regular web page. I even tried starting at a regular page, then loading about:konqueror and then going back to the regular page, and javascript worked just fine. Bye, LenZ
It started when I removed my self compiled version, and installed the SuSE RPMs, which included the i686 optimized kdelibs package (I have an AMD Athlon "Thunderbird" CPU, so this seemed ok, right?). I tried the "normal" fixes -- clean up .DCOP* and .mcop* from my home directory, start with a new .kde/.kde2 directory, and reboot (which cleans up /tmp on my system).. and nothing seemed to work. I tried to see which package was causing the crashes, so I recompiled/installed both kdebase and kdelibs from CVS, and it didn't make any difference.. which is very weird. The only thing I can think of is if the "make install" routines didn't overwrite the files from the RPMs, but they would, right? Anyways, I've narrowed it down about as far as I can - if you start konqueror pointed at the "about:konqueror" page, javascript segfaults konqueror. If you start it at a normal web page, it's fine. Anders is/was also having this problem, but Ben seemed to be fine(?) Let me know if you need any further information! I downloaded the kde2.2 for SuSE 7.1 binaries yesterday. Konqueror used to segfault on many sites, to do with JS I suppose,, until I cleared /tmp - /home/user/fx/.kde and /home/user/fx/.kde2, but also /.kde and /kde2. I've just tried cnn.com, userfriendly.org and slashdot.org, and it all seems to work fine now. Pity about htpps, though.... I don't know - I don't follow the KDE bug tracking. We have plenty of self-made bugs here :) If it can be reproduced using self-compiled binaries, I would assume a general KDE bug. If it only happens with the SuSE RPMs, it might be an error on our side...
