[opensuse] Installing stuff takes forever
I just went to install some rpm files (for TuxPaint) and was concerned. Every time I clicked on the rpm file (in Konqueror) I was told to install wtih yast. I dutifilyy gave my password and then had to wait several minutes while various cache files were updated before each would install. What can I do to get rid of this behavior? -- kai www.filesite.org || www.4thedadz.com || www.perfectreign.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Big ranting thread here a day or four ago about the need to refresh repository cache for no obvious reason. The upshot is that coming upgrades are very much faster. For now, the easiest solution when you have the RPM in hand is command line install. rpm -u or rpm -i . Especially if you have reason to believe that all dependencies will be met with what is installed -- ----------JSA--------- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Check /etc/zypp/zypp.conf I use 60 minutes refresh interval and zypper is no more so eager to check repositories on every start. repo.refresh.delay = 60 I haven't used recently Konqueror to install files, so I'm not sure would this help. If you browse one ftp server, than it can be better to add it in list of repositories and use: zypper in <copy-paste-file-name> -- Regards, Rajko http://en.opensuse.org/Portal needs helpful hands. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
