[SLE] XDMCP from remote
I am using X-Win32 to access my Solaris and SUSE server from Wintel machines. I have the Solaris box configured in a way where it boots to text login, but it is still running the server needed for the X-Win32 server to hook into the XDMCP on the box. I want to do the same thing with my SuSE machines. Presently I am booting to text mode, but the machine is not allowing remote machines to nook into them via XDMCP. How do I configure SuSE to do that? First configure your machine for graphical logon (KDE or XDM) with yast. (This basically makes the machine goto runlevel 3 after boot.) If you don't wan't X on the console you must edit /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xservers. Comment out the line that reads something like ':0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 vt07' by putting a # in front of it (or remove the line). Next you must allow remote connects to xdm/kdm. Edit the file '/usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xaccess' and uncomment the line '!* #no host can get a login window' by removing the '!' character at the beginning of the line. If you are on a public network you might want to replace the '*' with something more restrictive. * allows access from any machine. You need to restart xdm/kdm to take the changes into effect. (Sending a kill -1 also works). You can also reboot the machine of course. Good luck, Erwin de Beus -- ===================================================================== ing. Hi Sam! Must go very straight. On your SuSE-machine: 1. Set the variable DISPLAYMANAGER in your /etc/rc.config to either "xdm" or "kdm" 2. Comment out the lines concerning your local display (lines beginning with :0 local) in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xservers 3. Uncomment the (last?) line in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-config concerning your DisplayManager.requestPort and set it to 177 4. Run SuSEconfig 5. Restart either xdm (/sbin/init.d/xdm restart) or the whole machine 6. Enjoy it! I suppose for the above that you havenŽt changed these files after your installation in any way else. It should work with the defaults of the distribution. Of course, the xdm-package should be installed :) So long, JLT -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Oops! Sorry, forgot to set the Xaccess... but Erwin didnŽt :) So long, JLT -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
