[opensuse] Display artifacts in Leap 42.3, on oldish laptop with Intel Video

Similar laptop, similar problem. I just ignore it, it doesn't cause me too much problems, but yes, I certainly think there's a problem with 42.3 and Intel graphics, too... It's actually got a (little) bit better with the new meltdown/spectre kernel, but it's still there ... I vaguely remember fonts and firefox looking different in 42.3 after 42.2, can't remember if I did something or if I've just got used to it. I've had to customize things every leap update so far. Check for drm-kmp-default and that it comes from the update repository. Should be version 4.9.33_k4.4.79_4-5.2. I have kernel 4.4.104-39, and drm-kmp-default 4.9.33_k4.4.79_4-5.2 - hand copied in text mode, gpm is not working.
This affects older intel, I've got a sandy bridge. That drm-kmp-default 4.9.33_k4.4.79_4-5.2 you've got is the one in update that did fix the issue. This affects older intel, I've got a sandy bridge. That drm-kmp-default 4.9.33_k4.4.79_4-5.2 you've got is the one in update that did fix the issue. Gkrelmm has zones that are unreadable for long time, even if I put another window on top to try force a redraw (the CPU_0 panel, for instance, is gargabe).
This instant, the whole Thunderbird went unreadable as I switched worskpace (I'm typing at Alpine).

It was found that in the original bug, which was also caused by drm-kmp-default, that the more strain on x the more likely a gpu hang. I could work in xfce without a problem but in plasma5 as soon as thunderbirds new mail pop up appeared I had a hang. If you reduce your system memory it's more likely to occur, use kernel line mem=1G to boot up with less memory if you want to check if it's fixed. That made hangs with xfce as well. Uninstall drm-kmp-default the Mesa-dri issue was in tumbleweed due to a package split. In fact if you add your clout to: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1077885 it might speed things up.
Just tried to un-install it, and it looks like it's installing! So it seems I'm having the problem when it's NOT installed ... I'll see what difference it makes with it installed ... Probably you have already solved (did not investigate the whole thread). I had the same problem, this is due to changes in drm-kpm-default package. You have to uninstall it and to embargo it. Then you do mkinitrd and you should run the video normally. The intel-x86 driver does not work anymore for the most as it does not receive any reasonable updates from intel any more. Carlos, this is a completely different GPU family than in the initial report (GM45 vs. Sandybridge). Please open a separate bugreport. Also first thing to try with ancient Intel GPUs is uninstalling drm-kmp-default package.
