Unable to change write speed to burn dvd-R
Hi all, using k3b or growisofs I can burn DVD only choosing write speed AUTOMATIC (k3b) or not to select -speed=N option (growisofs). This is the system answer when I tried to chenge write speed: :-( Failed to change write speed: 0->2770 This error appears both I'm a normal user or I'm root Can anyone tell me why? Is there any configuration process to be done? I'm using Suse 9.1 and a Sony-DRU-530A DVD recorder TIA Emme -- \ | / (@ @) -----oOO-(_)-OOo---------- Vari Massimiliano varimass@tiscali.it ------------------------------

It is the same here. I have the same Sony unit as you: it only works when I choose "auto". It took me a long time to work out even that.

I guess it is with -R disks. And, it happens with my Plextor as well. As far as I investigated the problem, this may happen with some media. So, Chances are that with a different media it will work. Also firmware update may help. One way or another, the possible workaround is to prepare first the image, and after that to burn the image. Then you should be able to avoid this error. Verifying that it happens to me also and it took a long time to figure out. I have a Teac CDRW and it doesn't matter what type of media or media manufacturer I use. Auto is the only speed K3b knows although it burns at the fastest speed it can for the media and the 'speed' of the media. Stan

Same for xcdroast and it seems to produce good media. Previously when I could select the speed, I'd find that the CD didn't always work on all other boxes. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and Keen Flyer =====ALMOST ALL LINUX USED HERE, Solaris 10 SPARC is just for play=====
