[opensuse] KV8-Max3 hardlocks installing 11.4
I've run into an interesting issue on my son's desktop. It's: Athlon 3200+ KV8-Max3 512MB DDR (1 x256MB, 2 x 128MB all 400Mhz) nVidia GeForce FX5600/256MB The install starts fine, but when it gets to "activating usb devices..." the system hardlocks. It does it everytime. I've disabled the onboard SATA Raid controllers. I do have a Promise IDE RAID card in it. The system has XP(fulled updated) on it and runs perfectly fine, so I'm not leaning toward a hardware issue. I've tried: 11.4/x64 - standard and safe settings 11.3/x64 - standard loads the kernel to 67% and stalls but reboots sometimes. Otherwise, it and safe settings hardlock. Knoppix 6.0.2/x32 - hardlocks after loading the kernel and resetting the video. Any suggestions? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'd run memtest a couple of hours anyway. AFAIK, the XP kernel is rather generic, and works RAM less hard than Linux.

I have run it for about 30 minutes using all 3 sticks and 1 stick at a time(It had a 512/400 that I moved elsewhere and it had the same issue). I dunno. It's not a real priority to get it running. Yes, are all BIOS updates from the motherboard vendor installed ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
