I don't want it docked, there is no space, and it uses a lot. I don't want it anywhere. The View > Toolbars > Table is not checked, no effect. I had already tried that. It automatically checks itself back whenever I cursor over a table. I'm having the same problem with the "bullets" tool box. I do not want _any_ tool box automatically popping in! On mine, 2.3.1 x86_64 version, it is controlled by View, Toolbars, Table. With it unchecked, it does not pop back up. With it checked, it does as you said. It will pop back up if closed and then click back in the table. But with View, Toolbars, Table unchecked, that does not happen here. joe@jmorris:~> rpm -qa | grep OpenOffice_org OpenOffice_org-2.3.1.2-3.1 OpenOffice_org-calc-2.3.1.2-3.1 OpenOffice_org-pyuno-2.3.1.2-3.1 OpenOffice_org-filters-2.3.1.2-3.1 OpenOffice_org-templates-labels-a4-1.0-4.1 OpenOffice_org-hyphen-20070719-14 OpenOffice_org-icon-themes-2.3.1.2-6.1 OpenOffice_org-draw-2.3.1.2-3.1 OpenOffice_org-templates-presentation-layouts-2.0.4-53 OpenOffice_org-templates-labels-letter-1.0-4.1 OpenOffice_org-impress-2.3.1.2-3.1 OpenOffice_org-base-2.3.1.2-3.1 OpenOffice_org-openclipart-2-47 OpenOffice_org-math-2.3.1.2-3.1 OpenOffice_org-writer-2.3.1.2-3.1 OpenOffice_org-Quickstarter-1.0-610.1 OpenOffice_org-kde-2.3.1.2-3.1 OpenOffice_org-mailmerge-2.3.1.2-3.1 OpenOffice_org-thesaurus-en-20060111-14 OpenOffice_org-templates-en-2.0.4-51 -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
The View > Toolbars > Table is not checked, no effect. I had already tried that. It automatically checks itself back whenever I cursor over a table.
I'm having the same problem with the "bullets" tool box. I do not want _any_ tool box automatically popping in! I have only a 1024*768 display, there is no space for so much clutter. That's fine for OOo developers having a state of the art computer, not for normal people out there :-(
OOo developers at Sun don't have massive desktops. They are mostly using SunRays with fairly small TFT displays. :-) What version of OOo are you fighting with? Are you using Novell's custom build or the official OOo release? I ask because there is a difference. The Novell version have a lot of extras that have not yet made it into the core builds yet. These extras can have an effect on how OOo behaves. Also... have you installed any OOo Extensions recently? I tested it here using OOo 2.3.1 (Novell build). I opened an empty document, added dummy text (type dt and press F3). Then I created a small table. Clicking in the table makes the table tool bar pop up. I go to View > Toolbars, and remove the check next to Table. Then I click away from the table. The popup is removed. Click back in the table and no table toolbar shows up. This is what is supposed to happen. If you're finding other behavior, then something isn't right with OOo. Someone must be doing the testing with high resolution displays only.

Novell build, version 2.3 from the stable branch.

No that I know. Neither recently, not ever, that I remember.

I do what you describe, and when I go back to the table, the tool box kick in again, and the tick box is ticked again. :-/ Correction. If I create a new document, I get your described behaviour. I see no table tool. If I go back to my previous document, still opened, the table tool kicks back in. And the bullet tool box too, after I tried "resetting" view-tools options. I untick table in view/toolbars, and the table toolbar kicks back in if I move the cursor to a table. This behaviour is only in previous documents (the two I tried). [...] I Got It! What a ...
This is not documented: I just read the help for this.
It's not documented because that should not work that way. If you turn off the table toolbar, it is supposed to stay off for all tables in all documents until you turn it on again. Does your problem document have multiple text flows (although I just tried inserting a text frame with text and a table and it respected the global table toolbar setting) or some other unusual configuration? Did the document start life in MS Office? I tested creating a second document without closing the first... it respected the toolbar setting. I also tested closing all OOo instances and restarting. Created a new document with a table and it respected my toolbar settings. This is what I would expect... so something is odd with your document.. or with your OOo install. But it doesn't. Not here.

Not that I see or remember.
Did the document start life in MS Office?
Could be, years ago. This is version 31, started in wordperfect, then amipro, then word (not sure), then staroffice, then OOo... some of the migrations were "imports", some started fresh, perhaps with some copypaste. But I get the same behaviour in a new document I created for testing this.

OK, I asked around here in the office (OOo developers etc.) and they said that OOo should: - by default pop up a relevant toolbar eg the table toolbar when you put the cursor in a table - turn off that auto toolbar for all tables in Writer when you go to View > Toolbars and remove the check next to the relevant toolbar. - respect that setting for all new documents opened (ie it persists after closing OOo and reopening). So my guess is something has gone wrong in your OOo config directory. Try renaming it and then launching OOo? Maybe that will reset things back to normal.
