[opensuse] nscd starting error in openSUSE 11.3
Hello, Just installed openSUSE 11.3 and this error comes up during boot. Starting Name Service Cache Daemonbind(/var/run/nscd/socket): No such file or directory startproc: exit status of parent of /usr/sbin/nscd: 1 Installing nscd - Name Service Caching Daemon and deinstallation of unscd-0.45-5.1.i586 sorted the issue but how was this bug missed! Secondly remote installation does not work in 64bit version. During installation vnc=1 vncpassword=PASSWORD would start the remote installation and I used to connect via the browser http://ipaddress:5801 32bit version works fine but 64bit does not work. I strongly feel that an updated media must be released (openSUSE 11.31) after a while with all ths minor bugs cleaned! I seriously doubt new DVD images will be released with any fixes, but given your issue with remote installation I guess its possible. But posting it here is not going to be effectively very likely. This mailing list is primarily for end user questions and support. If you want to communicate with the core team such as the openSUSE board, this is not the place. I would subscribe and post at least to the opensuse-project mailing list. But there maybe one even more relevant than that. FYI: For none install related issues, the openSUSE model at this point definitely seems to assume users will apply patches from the update repo so issues on the DVD media get resolved that way. If people have systems that are not on the Internet or can't get to the update repo for some reason, they have to figure out a way to download the patches of interest and install them. I don't know if that is described on the wiki or not. Greg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I thought nscd was specifcially dropped in favour of unscd (a newer development). Anyway, it's hardly a major bug. FYI, my 11.3 test-system has unscd installed and running without issues or intervention.

Both of these, you mean? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (27.1°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Both of these, you mean? I see the same nscd error on my released system but not on my RC2 system. I have not seen a problem so far because of it so I have not made it high priority. -- Russ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Works here well on x86_64 and i586 openSUSE 11.3 systems upgraded either from 11.2 or 11.3 alpha, beta, rc systems. I performed all upgrades via zypper dup. Please add all the upgrade steps you performed to the bug report.

Nobody might have reported it to bugzilla or it's an issue only you're faced with. Are you able to reproduce the defect will be one of the first questions in bugzilla I bet.

I very strongly feel a bug report must be filed. Please follow http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Submitting_bug_reports Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

I've filed already a bug for this, it does not occur with an update, just with a fresh install :-( Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Program Manager openSUSE, aj@{novell.com,opensuse.org} Twitter: jaegerandi | Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126
