Oh well, it means basically there are two types of linux - 1) rpm 2) deb and I am going for 1) rpm. NOW in this rpm man distros come like openSUSE, fedora, etc.. and in deb other distros come like ubuntu, debian, etc.. , is it like this?
rpm and deb are for package management
Oh I see. Does it mean that packages are same? I mean there are packages on the servers of Linux. Redhat branch (openSUSE, fedora, etc...) uses .rpm to fetch them while Debian branch (debian, ubuntu, mint, etc...) use deb to fetch them, both uses the same packages but to fetch them they use different tools - 1) rpm and second 2) deb, is - Hide quoted text - it like this? -- THX -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

*sigh* You don't need to bother with this, Tyro. Focus on getting your system installed and running under openSuse with the openSuse distributions. Going down avenues like this without the basics in place will just confuse you and make other matters more difficult to understand FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS -- I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody -- Bill Cosby -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I did a mistake, that I could have waited some 14 days to start the torrent download of openSUSE as it is launching the newer version. -- THX -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

If you made a mistake it is not that; you are better off with a stable version like 11.4 than a bleeding edge version like 12.0 In fact you would probably have been better forgetting about Torrent and done a plain (and probably faster in my experience) FTP download of a LiveCD from a local site and put it on a USB (go google for details of the Windows tools for doing this) and running from that. Linux can run well from a 4G USB. I have a number of them, all give-aways at trade shows. I have them as rescue disks and as forensic tools (backtrack). My experience is that LiveCDs take a few minutes to download on my cable system, a few more to burn. I can try out two or three different LiveCD systems in an hour. Great amusement when new releases come out :-) Low risk way of filling a rainy holiday weekend :-) Once again, I wonder at what you are doing and why its taking so much effort. -- Psst! Or you could download only the tiny net install CD iso of 12.1RC1, install that via HTTP, then update to the final version in a few weeks, also via the internet of only the software packages you actually need. I've yet to even install any torrent app, much less download anything that way. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
