I wish to install VmWare so as to run some Windows apps that access a Novell server. When installing Windows 98 in the VmWare virtual machine, it states that Windows 98 won't recognize a data CD within VmWare if the kernel is 2.2.16. I need to go down to 2.2.15 or up to 2.2.17. I also have Mandrake 7.2, which uses the 2.2.17 kernel, and VmWare install and runs fine there. I prefer SuSE to Mandrake and would like to upgrade the kernel. I downloaded the 2.2.17 patch from kernel.org, but it didn't seem to install correctly. It is entirely possible that I fouled up the patching process, but it also occurred to me that the SuSE kernel and may be patched and I cannot apply the kernel.org patch to SuSE 2.2.16. I looked all over the SuSE ftp site, but couldn't find kernel sources or patches for 2.2.17. Any help in upgrading my SuSE kernel to 2.2.17 would be appreciated. Mike Michael A.
