Subject: Upgrading kernel
I am currently running SuSe 7.0, with the 2.2.16 kernel. I wish to install
VmWare so as to run some Windows apps that access a Novell server.
When installing Windows 98 in the VmWare virtual machine, it states that
Windows 98 won't recognize a data CD within VmWare if the kernel is 2.2.16.
I need to go down to 2.2.15 or up to 2.2.17. I also have Mandrake 7.2,
which uses the 2.2.17 kernel, and VmWare install and runs fine there.
I prefer SuSE to Mandrake and would like to upgrade the kernel. I
downloaded the 2.2.17 patch from kernel.org, but it didn't seem to install
correctly. It is entirely possible that I fouled up the patching process,
but it also occurred to me that the SuSE kernel and may be patched and I
cannot apply the kernel.org patch to SuSE 2.2.16.
I looked all over the SuSE ftp site, but couldn't find kernel sources or
patches for 2.2.17.
Any help in upgrading my SuSE kernel to 2.2.17 would be appreciated.
