Bruce please, there is no reason to take such a negative attitude. I have a valid question involving SuSE Linux 8.2. If you don't like me asking questions on this list then perhaps you should filter or ignore my posts. One might assume, and rightly so, that this is a forum for list members to ask questions and hopefully get positive and helpful answers. One might also assume that this is not a forum for members to criticize each other. When I last checked, it was apparent that SuSE Linux LLC own and maintain this list, and membership in this group does not extend, or transfer ownership of this list to its members. I think Bruce is simply trying to remind you that a) this is a member's list and SuSE employees do not necessarily monitor or respond to it, b) any response you get will come from people who have experienced a similar problem and resolved it or who are interested in the problem, c) in either of the cases in b) you may have to wait a while (read possibly a few days) because potential respondents may be on vacation, have a job, etc. I think his comments arise from the fact that you have asked the same question Date: Sat, 12 Jul 2003 11:28:24 -0700 Date: Sat, 12 Jul 2003 15:10:24 -0700 Date: Sat, 12 Jul 2003 16:50:55 -0700 Date: Sat, 12 Jul 2003 16:53:46 -0700 While this implies the problem is urgent for you, it is not urgent for some of the rest of us. In fact repeating the question so often so quickly, potentialy without regard for those of us who have dial-up or those of us who pay by the downloaded kB (many in Europe do), can be mis-interpreted as a very self-centered action. That said - have you tried looking at http://www.OpenOffice.org for any advice? /Hans

Why do you feel the need to attack others behavior, and criticize others in general? Is your life that terrible that criticism, negativity, and pointing out others "flaws" is all you have to offer the world? (no need to answer, these are rhetorical) I'm sorry for you if that is the case. I notice that You devote a great deal of time to criticism of others and little time to posting questions and providing helpful answers. Perhaps this is an attempt to "push my buttons." Regardles of what "this is", I am going to be the one that takes the path of considered action in this situation. This line of "conversation" is not worth the power of thought, nor worth further dignification by any further response from me. In future I will filter your messages at my service. So go ahead and give it your best and certainly endless shot. You know all I did was try to find an answer to a question on this list. Some people are kind enough here to actually refrain from endless criticism and offer helpful ideas and even solutions. I will look to those kind individuals for help. God Bless you and have a nice day. Max.

You still don't get it, do you? You should wait *at least* a day before reposting questions. And if questions don't get answered, chances are high that there's nobody on the list that can answer your question so reposting won't help you a bit. At least I would rather ignore somebody that obviously ignores common etiquette.
Others on this list have posted a question far more times than 4 in a 24 hour period, and taken up many, many bytes posting and responding to dead or over worked issues.
Even if others do you don't have to follow.

Please get yourself some decent political education before you start using terms that you, judging from that sentence, obviously don't understand. Yes, you may continue to be ignorant but that'll only increase the chances that you'll get yourself forcefully unsubscribed from this list. Philipp

Thank you for your positive and helpful comments. Please post your abuse to someone else. I am not interested in name calling or or flame war mongering, or attacks on others who are posting questions on this list, or defending themselves from such attacks (read the entire thread from begining). Your opinions are your own and your comrads, and I am happy for you. Please find someone else to bug. This is becoming pointless abuse now. If you are more superior, superior enough to point out my flaws and failings, then why don't you take the superior road and ignore this insect that is so vastly inferior to your superiority. I'm not digging into you and really neither was Philipp. He and others are simply trying to explain to you how things work and how this list works. You seem to take offense to any correction in behavior. And after there are several thousand users on this list and if you send 4 - 10 posts a day with the same question that no one has answered for various reasons then it's not proper behavior. You speak of having to pay for dialup and all but you do not take into account that some of us get hundreds of emails a day. We are just trying to give you a bit of information to help you get along in a community. As far as your question about OpenOffice. Please remove all the rpm's that contain OpenOffice. Please remove the openoffice directory in your home directory and along with that remove .sversionrc. Then reinstall the RPM's. This should fix your issue. If those files are removed then nothing will have remained of OpenOffice to conflict with anything and you should be able to reinstall without hassle. You can also make a desktop short cut directly to the executable (ie. swriter) so that you don't have to get weird error messages from SuSE's OO script. It's what I do. :) Please take the first paragraph's comments as a friendly FYI. We just want you to be a productive part of the community so that no one gets annoyed with you and decides to make a procmail rule bouncing all messages sent by you back to you. ;) -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----------------------------------------------------------- This e-mail and any attachment is intended for anyone with an email address and does not contain information that is confidential and privileged or that is of any intrinsic value to anyone.
