Regards. Massimo I don't understand exactly what you did. What did you chmod? Is the problem system wide, or just in one user's directory? Can you log in as another user and get a konsole?

Now i can start konsole only for root user. I have made a new user, but it can not still start konsole. I can either launch any other applications, like kwrite, korganizer, konqueror, etc. This are the permissions: -rw------- 1 masarn1 users 219 ott 21 12:44 .kde2/share/applnk/System/konsole.desktop the system turn it so everytime i reboot. /tmp must be world writeable, with the sticky bit set. Otherwise many things will break, including kde. chmod o+w /tmp chmod u+t /tmp regards Anders On Sun, 21 Oct 2001, Massimo Arnaudo wrote:

NEVER EVER EVER do that! I remember one time I typed rm -r /usr /appname and guees what? I also found that when you have a file called '~' you should never do a rm ~. If you don't believe me, try it! {;-)>

what do you see when you type umask? I get 022. I've never seen your problem, but it seems like it may be related to umask. What is it set to in /etc/profile?
Ciao Massimo

This may explain a lot ! I would suggest a umask of 022 may be more appropriate. -- Regards Cliff
