[opensuse] softwaremgmt System restart warning message
Hi,
I received the message quoted below, I assume because my user is able
to receive system mail.
To my untrained eyes it looks like there is a new package called softwaremgmt
This new software update affects the following packages?:
yast2-pkg-bindings yast2-qt-pkg satsolver-tools zypper
yast2-ncurses-pkg libzypp
The message advises to 'restart before executing any further
operations.' and I wonder bar from a system reboot, how this could be
achieved and what exactly needs to be done? Is this necessary to apply
the patches or to start the update process?
I have checked our friend Google but the number of results even with a
search string of: softwaremgmt +"opensuse-users" -"[softwaremgmt]"
-"[compiz" still was scary.
Looking forward to a pointer or two.
Regards
Hylton

This means to restart the package managing using tools only. The cron job already did, so nothing to do for you. Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Tnx Marcus and situation SOLVED

It is in fact a 'patch' - on object whose dependencies ensure that some fixes are applied after you install it.

Warning: One of installed patches affects the package manager itself, thus it requires its restart before executing any further operations.
You must be using an old version of zypper (0.8.x perhaps?). The message is unfortunate there. Newer zypper will tell you this: "One of installed patches affects the package manager itself. Run this command once more to install any other needed patches." So running the 'up -t patch' (or just 'patch' since zypper 1.0.x) once again is all there is to it. I got that same message as Hylton when I ran 'zypper up' from a console window just yesterday. This is on an openSUSE 11.0 system that had all the patches applied to it about two weeks back. I assumed that the meaning was the same as a similar message shown when you run YaST2 -> Software -> Online Update so I ran 'zypper up' again, and it updated the non-packagemanagement related packages. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
