[opensuse] Tip for 11.1 install of KDE3 - it's not an option on the desktop setup anymore
Listmates, If nothing has changed from the Beta and RC, then you will not find KDE 3 as an option on the desktop setup page during the 11.1 install. It it still there, but it has been moved to the 'other' desktop selection along with xfce and IceWM. I haven't loaded 11.1 yet, but look forward to it being another great release with kde3.5 on top! I used KDE4 for the Beta and RC releases, but I'm going back to 3.5 for the final install. I can't spend my life filing bug reports or learning dozens of new crtl+alt+click set of keystrokes just to put the focus on a file. Great job and thanks to the openSuSE developers who put in a huge effort to get 11.1 to where it is now. -- David C. Agreed! Now, for my experience with an upgrade. I grabbed both 35 and 65-bit ISOs early today and have to leave. 'Burned both images when I returned, but didn't have a chance to upgrade this desktop (dual-core AMD 4200+ Athalon). It's a SATA box with 4G RAM and nVidia video. I've been using 11.0 w/KDE 3.5 on it. 11.1 was booted, and I chose to upgrade, which it did using KDE 3.5, which is what I wanted. After the initial install, I cleaned out the old repositories and added the new ones, then did another update. This is the SMOOTHEST upgrade I've ever done........period, bar none!!! GOOD job, boys and girls of the openSUSE team!!!! The only complaint I have so far, is that when I added mplayer, kmplayer, and smplayer, they didn't show up in the menu....had to add them manually. Other than that, SO FAR, an EXCELLENT upgrade!! I'll do a laptop tomorrow that has RC1 with KDE 4.*....we'll see how well that goes. [snip] Yeah.....I'm tired...meant 32 and 64-bit.
