OTOH, 3Ddiag reports I need to include : `Load "GLX" ` and specify ` "nvidia" ` as the driver.

If I do this manually, X still fails to start.

I've had the same issues lately with 8.0 and the newest nVidia drivers. 4 of my co-workers machines just puke on these binary only drivers. I walked into work on Thursday when to startx and behold...*death*. X wouldn't start..I hadn't changed anything accept that I notices when I did apt-get upgrade I got a new xf86tools pkgs. I reverted to the older pkg and it still puked. At this point I've said screw nVidia both at home and at work. I went out and bought an ATI Radeon 7500 for work because it's preformed so well at home. Hi Ben, It just so happens I have a 7500 being sent out to me by a friend who doesn't use it anymore....so out of curiosity do you play any Q3,UT or such? If so do you have an opinion on there performance with that card? Thanks for the heads up Ben, I'm very anxious for this card now as I have a tnt2 ultrat at the moment as well. Yep..I tested each and everyone..they all run flawlessly. And because I went from a Diamond Viper 770 Ultra (TNT2) to this Radeon...it's quite a bit faster. All the games look good and run pretty fast. I can't say what a GeForce4 or Radeon 9700 would do with them, but I'm happy. And I can say this..if there's a problem with something *I'LL* say it. You can count on that. :)

Weird problem, have you ever had it working before (other distro, older driver)? Maybe you could try an older driver from the NVidia ftp site. You should also try mailing NVidia about the problem.

TTry the attched XF86Config file. Works like a charm. Sax2 has issues w/ NVidia crads
