I have always installed lprng just because that is the one I have become used to. Are there any real advantages of cups over lprng? I notice the 9.1 manual has a nice section on cups with hardly a mention of lprng. Is this a hint I should change with the times? Greg Engel

Yes, CUPS for instance supports IPP, PPD, and support for ICC color profiles will be in version 1.2. See CUPS FAQs (http://www.cups.org/faq.php) for more info. CUPS provides more features but it doesn't help with the fact that Linux is still greatly ignored by many manufacturers.

Mac OS X isn't. Just ask for the Mac OS X driver. It will be a ppd file which you can load in YaST2. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAo4xs4U2uQswGyDcRAkdmAJ4l6TKz7NDLC81ejsN+W86NBZXgdwCfRaSz mkQ4me+ZTjdaE6aysmQv4hk= =UHOQ -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I also meant various client programs that could remotely control the printer. For instance office printers like Canon GP335 can perform more than just duplex printing but I don't know how to use these additional features from Linux. -- A.M.
