Can someone give me some hints on why or how to get the new AudioCD IO slave service to work? I have all the settings correct, according to my setup, so all seems ok there. I can play audio cds in any of the provided players under KDE 2.2.1, but when trying to view the contents of a an audio cd, this part does not work. Now, I understand you can't mount an audio cd as it doesn't have a standard filesystem, but this new feature provide to us by the KDE folks is suppose to allow you to at least read the contents of an audio CD. Thanks to all for any hints, tricks or tips you might be able to provide. i suppose you use and IDE CD-ROM. then you'll have to enable ide-scsi for it, and, most likely, set appropriate permiyions on scsi devices. that what i did: assume that you use a common SuSE kernel configuration, and your cdrom is /dev/hdx. 1. update INITRD_MODULES in /etc/rc.config to contain values: "sg ide-scsi" (right in this order) 2. update /etc/lilo.conf in the following way append=" hdx=ide-scsi .... " ...... image = /boot/vmlinuz root = /dev/hde7 label = linux initrd = /boot/initrd # <-- this is what responsible for initrd loading! 3. run 'mk_initrd && lilo'. 4. maintain devices permitions: i usually use 'disk' group to access these devices, there for: chgrp disk /dev/sg* chmod g+w /dev/sg* (other default permittions seem to be OK) 5. add yourself to 'disk' group. 6. reboot and enjoy that new cool audiocd feature! (if you run 'scsidev' it will show your CD-ROM) 7. keep in mind that now /dev/cdrom link should be changed from /dev/hdx to /dev/sr0. -- make appropriate changes to fstab and etc. see appropriate docs for details. maybe SuSE sometime will provide more automized solution for this :-) . Is that necessary just the the AudioCD IO Slave to work? I thought that was more for getting CD burners to work than audio CD ripping... -Tim On Saturday 03 November 2001 07:11 pm, Vitaly Shishakov wrote:

Me too Tim. As I have already got all my IDE CD drives setup as scsi devices and using them for everything else under the sun a cd can be used for, I just can't read the files on an audio CD! Gotta be a simple answer here somewhere? I am guessing some here have it working? Do anything special? Your settings? What am I missing guys? Help! ;-) O'Malley -- ---KMail 1.3.1--- SuSE Linux v7.2--- Registered Linux User #225206 /tracerb@sprintmail.com/ *Magic Page Products* *Team Amiga* http://home.sprintmail.com/~tracerb
How's your permissions on /dev/sg*? Try this, as root chmod 666 /dev/sg* or you could make sure your user is in the group 'disk'. I think this was the problem when I had scsi emulation going. regards Anders On Sunday 04 November 2001 05.39, Lee O'Malley wrote:

Ok, Anders, I have "disk" permissions or am part of that group. "sg0", "sg1" properties are Owner 'root' and group 'disk' while the owner has RW, group has R . Anything that should change there? Now mine is cdrom & cdrecorder with owners 'tracerb' and group "users" with RW for the owner? Mine are /media/cdrom and /media/cdrecorder right now, any changes need to be done there? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, hate to make this hard for you people, but i have it all working fine with an ide cdrom and no scsi emulation whatsoever. I have write access to /dev/hdc as I am a member of the disk group. All seems fine to me. What errors are you getting? And if it's still set, try unsetting the autodetect cdrom device option in the control applet and entering your device manually. I seem to recall I have to do this. I think this is the same as the problem I am having. When I had no scsi emulation for hdc I could use audioCD inside konq, and get loads of info about my audio CD (including various compressions). However, I could not see the device in xcdroast. I then switched the drive over to scsi emulation and whenever I try to use audioCD I get an error message saying "can't find /" or something like that (apologies, I am not at the system that has the problem so I can't give the exact message). I would be grateful for any help to get audioCD going as I found it quite useful. Thanks Eddie On Sunday 04 November 2001 1:53 pm, Tom Wesley wrote:

On Monday 05 November 2001 04:31 am, Eddie Howson, went on about: the right permissions. As both my drives are setup with the ide-scsi I am using /dev/cdrom in the AudioIO slave setup in CC. But I also have a link from scd1 to cdrom in my setup, this was done by issuing the command in a shell/console window of : ln -sf /dev/scd1 /dev/cdrom Then check the permissions to be sure cdrom is root owner & disk group with RW of both owner & group. I think that will take care of your problem. Let me know if I can be of further help. May be, i did not check that, but with IDE-SCSI enabled you are able to use 'grip' with 'cdparanoia' -- that really rocks and does everything automatically and better. Tom Wesley wrote:
