I was wondering if SuSE had a users forum like the one set up for Mandrake users at www.mandrakeuser.org and the one for gentoo at forums.gentoo.org? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Shopping - Mother's Day is May 12th! http://shopping.yahoo.com

What, is that a joke? I take it from your helpful response that the answer is no. Jeez, as a Linux newbie considering a move to SuSE, I thought that was a legitimate question. Discussion forums are much better than mailing lists or usenet, IMHO. Sorry for such an asinine question. Guess I'll just have to look elsewhere for another distribution if that's the kind of attitude I'll find on this mailing list. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hey yahoo, calm down. It was an honest question.

Well, if you honestly didn't know what I was referring to (I did provide links as examples of I meant), then I apologize. I came across those two particular discussion boards/forums etc. and I was just wondering if there was a similar board/forum aimed at SuSE users. I searched through Google but didn't find anything so I thought I would post the question here. I know you can use Google to search through lists.suse.com but the layout and features of those forums are very nice. Anyway, I wasn't trying to start anything... I'll go home now... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Shopping - Mother's Day is May 12th! http://shopping.yahoo.com

Not that I care about these things, but I think that a forum is web based. I think yahoo groups supports both a mail interface like we are using here, and a web interface that lists by threads.

Sure, we have that. Use a threading mail client and one of the web archives. We've had that since 1997...I guess now it's called a 'forum'. Pretty soon, suse-linux-e will become a 'chat room' and we can all go home. -- -ckm

I don't think most of us know what a "user's forum" is. We are happy with the mailing list. If you want to start a "user's forum"--whatever that is--I don't think you will find any complaint on this list. Maybe you will find joiners. Maybe it will even be useful, who knows? (I hope that you are not real p.o.'d at us for not having one of these, but I guess we mostly think we don't need it.) --doug At 14:22 05/10/2002 -0700, Charles Griffin wrote:

Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but I feel I should explain my response to Chris' post. I honestly thought everybody knew what a forum was. I mean, www.linuxnewbie.org and www.linuxquestions.org for example are two pretty large and well known discussion boards -- also known as "forums." All my Linux friends visit those forums, among others, all the time and I was just wondering if there was one dedicated to SuSE. So, when I posed the question and got Chris' response, I figured he knew what a forum was considering as how he appears to be a very experienced Linux user so his response seemed a little smart-alecky and it just struck me the wrong way. Evidently, I was mistaken and he, and many others, have no idea what a forum is. I jumped the gun on my response (I usually don't respond that way, I promise ;-) -- it's been a long week). I apologized twice already and I'll apologize again. I didn't mean to offend. Patrick, thank you for your suggestion about the IRC channel and thanks to the others who have emailed me privately with their thoughts and suggestions. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
