Hi. I have just installed the SuSE 8.2, and was trying to set up the VMware 4.0 version, but I get the following message: "eurit:~ # vmware-config.pl Making sure VMware Workstation's services are stopped. Stopping VMware services: Virtual machine monitor done Trying to find a suitable vmmon module for your running kernel. None of VMware Workstation's pre-built vmmon modules is suitable for your running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes] yes Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override. What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include] The directory of kernel headers (version 2.4.20- 4GB) does not match your running kernel (version 2.4.20-4GB-athlon). Even if the module were to compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel. What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]" How can I fix that situation ??. Med venlig hilsen Erik Jakobsen Urbakken 8 Oeland D.K. 9460 Brovst Denmark eja@urbakken.dk
Hi! http://sdb.suse.de/de/sdb/html/fhassel_vmware_segfault81.html http://sdb.suse.de/de/sdb/html/fhassel_vmware_segfault.html will help you do it. As for running vmware-config.pl successfully you need to install kernel-source first, then execute the two copy commands from the SDB entry. You don't have to run make cloneconfig dep clean. Running SuSE 8.2 with VMware 4.0 on an Duron 950 with KT133A here. Ré

I have the kernel-source installed, and the /include directory is there too. Where are your C header files to be found ?. What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]

You need to copy the vmlinuz.config and vmlinuz.version.h from /boot to the appropriate places under /usr/src/linux. vmlinux.config should be copied to /usr/src/linux/.config and the vmlinuz.version.h should be copied to /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h. Then the "kernel headers" will match the description of the running kernel. Then try and build the modules. - Herman eja@urbakken.dk wrote:

Installed VMware 4.0 Workstation on Suse 8.2. config.pl ran fine after installing kernel source. VMware starts correctly and sets up guest operating system up to the point that the OS is to be read from the CDROM. VMware apparently cannot address the CDROM. Device is Samsung SM-332B CDRW-DVD drive. It works fine with Suse. I have tried /dev/cdwriter (Suse uses this), /dev/cdrom and /dev/sr0 none of which work. Robbie
Try mounting your CDR if it's not mounted before stating VMware. --- Robert Robinson <robbiex@bellsouth.net> wrote:
