[opensuse] Bug 1099565 – Icons and text not displaying properly - Leap 15.0
I created this report because of a frequent problem with the desktop. Has anyone else noticed it? Also, I find, with 15.0, that some things are slower to start. For example, if I press Alt-F2, to do some function, and start typing, it takes a few seconds for the characters to appear. It seems sluggish in other ways too. https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1099565 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

According to Yast, I have a Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller. Since it's KDE: Check the settings in Display / Monitor - Compositor settings. Try the various openGL options and see if that improves things. You might even stop the compositor from starting.

Ummm... Desktops are really not my area of expertise. I just take whatever is default and go with it. I wouldn't know what to change. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Ummm... Desktops are really not my area of expertise. I just take whatever is default and go with it. I wouldn't know what to change. From the menu: Systemsettings - Display & Monitor - Compositor. Try setting it to Xrender, click apply. There's a checkbox in the same screen to turn off the compositor at startup.

It's already set to Xrender. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It's already set to Xrender. Then try openGL (1st the '2' version) -- Gertjan Lettink a.k.a. Knurpht openSUSE Board Member openSUSE Forums Team

That's what I had here until last week when I swapped in an i3 for a Pentium. Whoever's going to work the bug needs to know. First try: # zypper rm xf86-video-intel and restart the server. I purged it before I ever got my first Intel Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller. The only Intel gfx systems I have using xf86-video-intel are the real antiques, at least 8yrs old. Last official release of that driver was 3-4 years ago. -- "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. I have also tried that and rebooted the system. Also set Compositor to openGL 2. Problem remains. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Have you tried disabling compositing entirely? There's a checkbox in systemsettings, and to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ can be created 70-extensions.conf containing to disable globally for all users and DEs: Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "Disable" EndSection Which connection type(s) is/are your display(s) using? -- "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. As I mentioned earlier, I'm not strong on displays. There's a setting to "Allow applications to block compositing" that's enabled. I just created that file and had to restart plasma again due to this problem. I use HDMI to a 1080p monitor. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

There was a kernel update, along with other things recently. This problem seems to have gone away so far. Hopefully, whatever caused this has been fixed by one of the updates. I'd get this problem a few times per day. It's now been a few days since it's happened. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
