'netstat -tulpen' as root should tell you what process opened this port.

Now to figure out how NFS is getting started, because I don't use it on this machine.
Connection refused can be the firewall sending a reject answer and you could see this if you block port 111 (used by portmapper) on your firewall. Try turning the firewall off and repeat rpcinfo -p. Is this box a NFS or NIS client? Those services also use the portmapper to obtain port assignments. Jeff
