Well, I just fiddled with the configuration again and lo and behold, vmware came up! SO.... do I need to copy the disk image /usr/lib/vmware/floppies/win98 (or whatever) to a floppy with dd to install the vmware tools or is there a trick to redirect to the file on my HD? BTW, has anyone successfully displayed the vmware.pdf file of the vmware docs? I downloaded from VMWare and the file is like 6 megs but the KDE viewer shows it's one page with no contents. I think I tried Acroread as well but I don't remember if it worked (this was a few weeks ago, the dialog here reawakened my interest in getting VMWare to run, thanks!)
If you mean vmware_2_support_en.pdf (582 pages, ~6 megs), it opens with no problems in Acroread 4 on SuSE 7. -Kastus

Ed, I am using the 3dfx 3500 TV which works great under XFree and Accelerated X. Maybe I should try Accelerated X with VMWare.

What graphics card do you have? Did you have a choice of drivers to use? (My ATI Expert 2000 will run on xrage.rpm or r128, the later is far superior.) There are also several notes under Troubleshooting on the VMWare.com site. There are numerous support documents also.
