To turn off the window preview tooltips, the ones that pop up when you hover over a task bar item:
1) Hover over an area of clear space in the task bar, 2) right mouse and choose Configure Task Manager, 3) select the Appearance tab, 4) uncheck Show tooltips, 5) click OK or Apply as you prefer.
Turning off tooltips worked and I'm finally rid of that nonsense. However, tuning off show previews didn't do anything. I still get all those small windows all over the desktop.
