There are a couple of useless features in the KDE desktop. One is something triggers a bunch of thumbnail over the desktop, instead of the normal apps & folders. The other is when the mouse is held over an app, such as a browser, again thumnails pop up along the bottom of the screen, all showing exactly the same thing, so they can't even be used to select an open windows. I find both of these to not only be useless, but often get in my way. Is there anyway to disable this nonsense? I'm running Leap 15.2. tnx jk

Most likely for the first issue, you need to right-click on the desktop, go to the Icons submenu and uncheck 'Show Previews'. For the second, it's not entirely clear. I assume you refer to hovering over an app in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, and you mean you have multiple browser windows and they all just show the browser logo. On my Leap 15.2 install I see a thumbnail of the browser window content, which is the default. If you're not using compositing that might be a reason why. Perhaps look under Display and Monitor -> Compositor in System Settings. And if you do have compositing enabled, check the setting for Keep window thumbnails isn't set to Never. The default only shows thumbnails for apps that aren't minimized, so you might prefer Always. gumb

I would not call it nonsense, more "fancy stuff" i did not know exactly what you are talking with "small windows all over the desktop" Try switch off composer completely. using kde/plasma since a long time, always switched off the fancy stuff, no need for a machine for work. take care, at least at my tumbleweed version (not completely up to date) there is a bug, where the bottom line will be reduced in high when composer is off, and the writing there will be to high. you will run into it, only when you clear in your home directory .cache/ (the files:) plasma-svgelements-openSUSE_v0.5 an or plasma_theme_openSUSE_v0.5.kcache. Without a better description I'll have to guess what you're seeing. It could be a "Present Windows" edge effect. If the "small (preview) windows pop up when your mouse is near a screen edge, then that would confirm it. Edge effects can be disabled via Launcer -> System Settings -> Workspace Behavior -> Screen edges. For any active edge, right mouse on the edge and set the action to "No action". The default KDE is rich with features, but the UI can be customised to the nth degree. Your nonsense is another persons dream feature. If you'd prefer a no frills experience, perhaps start with openbox - it doesn't get much simpler than that - much like using an X Terminal from 1990. Michael

But moving the cursor to the upper left corner is the way to make it happen on demand! As previously noted, this is configured with: Launcher/ System Settings/ Workspace Behavior/ Screen Edges Move the cursor to the upper left corner of the screen icon and click-left on the little box. Your description exactly matches what would happen if the top left edge is active and set to one of the Present Windows option. If the top left edge in the settings page is not highlighted in blue, then yes No Action would be what's supposed to happen. If it is the case that no edges are set active, failing any other misunderstandings on either side, then it's possible that some config file somewhere is corrupt. In which case, you might just set the top left edge to something totally different, hopefully that might shake things up. If that works, then try setting it back to No Action. Another test of user config corruption would be to create a new user, login, confirm the top left edge behaviour, then use settings to disable the top left edge, and see if that works. If it works for the new user, then it is most likely some config error in the original users login. At which point you could investigate further or raise a bug and someone might point out which files to check. Michael
