What is this Mantel kernel you are suggesting?
They're the SuSE development kernels. Look at: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mantel/
But I hope that the sequence of development kernels I was referring to have now become the 9.0 production kernel.
Well, S-ATA specific patches for ICH5 haven't made it, obviously.
Did that too, but couldn't install anyway. Still getting this "hde: attached ide-disk." freeze. My hardware consists of a MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R board with an ATI 9500 pro gpu and a Seagate ST3120026AS S-ATA disk.
Sorry, haven't seen that message. Perhaps somebody else knows what it means. I'm using an Intel D875PBZ. Search the archive for messages from me to find various threads about configuring the kernel (I'm a newcomer to the black art).
I know I need to build a specific kernel with some Alan Cox patches. That's is working with Gentoo, i.e. But what I'm trying now is to make a patched installation boot-cd to use to install suse 9.0.
Does the hardware boot successfully using some other OS? (windoze or Knoppix or something)
Yepp, it does. No hardware issues here.
