I have an old K6-2/450 that will run Suse up to 8.2 but not version 9, as it won't run the 2.6 kernel. This is very interesting to me. I am running Suse 10.0 on four e-machines

I thought they were AMD K62 (before I looked) at /proc/cpuinfo... they are listed there as genuine AMD K6 3D processors (all of them). These guys run Suse 10 out of box without any tweaking. Maybe you could find an old K63 and get that thing running the later kernel....? Its been a while since I did this (mostly because I don't have time now, and I haven't run into your difficulty) but the default kernel can be tweaked to be optimized for your specific processor type... always could be in the past... so, between bios settings on the hardware side and a recompile of the kernel on the software side I would think that there should be a way to get the 2.6 kernel to run on the K62. Have you tried recompiling the kernel and optimizing for the i586 processor? just curious Maybe there is something I'm missing here.... could someone explain why the default kernel is baulking at the K62? -- Kind regards, M Harris <><
