Since you have SuSE 8.1, try the version of OpenOffice that is included with SuSE. Assuming that your fonts are located in a file such as /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype and that the KDE Control Centre - Font Installer has been set to that file, then OpenOffice or StarOffice6 should be able to find and use the fonts.
Don't forget that truetype fonts provided with your MS Windows (if you have it) can be added to your ......../fonts/truetype directory and Open Office will use them nicely. Have a look at the FONT-HOWTO document to see how to set up new fonts. Regards Ken Hough
