The bookmarks (and history) in Firefox 3 are stored in places.sqlite now.
That's great. I share the bookmarks file between Seamonkey and Firefox. I guess this will break that.
True for 2-way, but if you study my upthread post you'll see all is not yet lost.
But just remember if you delete the places.sqlite file to have it rebuild to import your links, be sure to delete the bookmarks.html as well or you will end up with 2 copies when you import your saved favorites. It's not smart enough to discard duplicates.
No idea what you mean. I:
1-delete places.sqlite 2-replace bookmarks.html file in FF3 profile dir with that from SM 3-use FF3
Importing is automatic in FF3 when a bookmarks.html exists and no places.sqlite exists.
Exactly what I mean, I have backups of bookmarks stored in ~/boxes/machine_name/userdata. FF automatically creates backups in: ~/.mozilla/firefox/vx395nd87.default/bookmarkbackups FF had messed up the arrangement of bookmarks with the 3.0 install. So I deleted places.sqlite to force a rebuild so I could import a fresh copy of /boxes/machine_name/userdata/bookmarks.html. To my surprise, FF automatically populated places.sqlite with information from ~/.mozilla/firefox/vx395nd87.default/bookmarkbackups/bookmarks-date.html. So, my point was if you want to dump the places.sqlite created by FF on install of FF 3.0, don't forget to remove all old bookmark*.html files in the FF directory or FF will automatically import those into places.sqlite thus leaving you with the same problem you originally sought to correct. Lastly, if you have bookmarks that you want to import using "Organize Bookmarks", make sure there are not duplicates in what you want to import. FF does no checking for duplicates. -- David C.
