Don't worry. It is just a question of patience. First install yast, using rpm commands (put in one line the rpm command with all the needed packages from the dvd), then tell yast to install whatever you think you need. You are not the first one that had to do that.
Perhaps: cd to the directory in the dvd holding the yast packages, and try:
rpm -i yast*
If it says it needs something else, add it to the line. It is doable!
Here is the last I have done:
rpm -i yast2*
As you can see below rpm -i yast2* will cause every yast function including gnome versions which is what you were trying to uninstall when you first had a problem.

Where can I find yast2-installation ?
Sorry for late reply, the easy way to solve your problem is a combination of the repair system and the installation system after booting the installation DVD. You could also use zypper, which is easier to install by the above method.execute :- rpm -i satsolver-tools* rpm -i libzypp* rpm -i zypper* If you get any dependency issues you must install the appropriate packages as well. Use the wild card * to prevent having to type in the version tags at the end of the package names. Once you have zypper installed execute :- zypper in yast2-qt-pkg and your yast2 software manager will be restored allowing easy installation of the rest of the missing software. Remember to check the installation summary to see what is being removed and installed and that there are some software packages that use gnome libraries so if you remove the library the package will be removed also. It is possible to have a system with almost no gnome though. Hope this fixes your problem.
