I've installed all four media updates, but I have no sound. Kmix shown mixer levels at non-zero. Everything worked in SuSE 9.2 yesterday. Go to Yast Control Center>Hardware>Sound>Volume and see if Master and PCM are turned up. Press test. For reasons I cannot fathom the mixers don't show it, if the Volume is put to 0 in the Control Center. Same problem here. Master and PCM are set to maximum, but no sound. Worked

I've had this problem with just about every version of SuSE I've installed. For me I had to start up the gamix or alsamixergui, and go through all the settings (including setting some to 0 that were all the way up) (kmix and kamix don't seem to have all the volume settings). The last time it was an AC97 volume that was at the maximum (and I don't have an active AC97 compatible soundchip) which had to be turned to 0. I don't know why, but SuSE and my SB live card have never gotten along straight from the box. It takes some fiddling in the alsamixergui, but in the end I've always managed to get 5.1 sound out of it. If anyone needs a copy of my /etc/asound.state file for reference, just send me an email. I'm sure it's not perfect, but it works for me. :) Regards, Pieter
