George, How did you try to kill it? kill -9 on the command line? I have been using ktop to look at processes and kill the bad ones. I regularly have to find Netscape processes and kill them. If the process is a zombie you probably will not be able to kill it without killing the host. I believe ktop will show a Z in the status column of a zombie.
