[SLE] Die Netscape die!
Hello, sometimes Netscape 4.7 freezes on me. I try to kill it, but it will not die. How do kill it? George -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
George, How did you try to kill it? kill -9 on the command line? I have been using ktop to look at processes and kill the bad ones. I regularly have to find Netscape processes and kill them. If the process is a zombie you probably will not be able to kill it without killing the host. I believe ktop will show a Z in the status column of a zombie. HTH (Though you probably tried kill -9) Steve George Zeigler wrote:

Hello everybody, thanks for the feedback. Especially for the tip on hitting Ctrl-Alt-Esc to turn the cursor into a skull and crossbones cursor, which will kill a window. Will try that one out next time Netscape freezes. Which should be within the next hour. Which will not help though. It just kills part of netscape, it is still running in the background. My remedy, open an xterm and do a 'killall -9 netscape' otherwise your system may slow down terribly by hogging CPU and use up memory. Make your life easy. As often as I (and everyone else) need to fix this problem I made a nobrainer script I called "nsfix" and put it in my path. #!/bin/sh killall -9 netscape rm ~/.netscape/lock I'm just lazy and hate typing the whole command and then having to go in to remove the lock file after killing it. Now I just type nsfix and all is better. Just a suggestion to save time and typing. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Darren R. I use that command now and then, and also the WindowMaker app, wmNetscapeKiller-0.2.tar.gz -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

In windowmaker, right click on the title bar and click on kill. Or open an xterm, look for the pid, and kill -9 (pid).
