Yes. However, the pre-disbanding version was a stable version, whereas the LO was not. Somethings broke and it has taken time to solve.
If it's make/break that you have the Go-OO version, you can always install the last available version using the 11.3 OpenOffice.org repos.... or download it direct from the Go-OO website (assuming the download page still works.... when I checked it earlier today, it was broken). I honestly think you're making a proverbial mountain out of a mole hill on this. Yes there are bugs in the LibO release. There were bugs in the Go-OO releases (some very annoying ones in past releases of Go-OO). There are bugs in the vanilla OOo releases too. Any hiccups in the LibO provided with 11.4 are unlikely to be as catastrophic as you're imagining.
