Hi Andreas,
Andreas Jaeger píše v Po 28. 02. 2011 v 09:49 +0100:
The transition from OpenOffice.org to LibreOffice still has a few minor documentation blips but more importantly, users should be cautious. The raft of new functionality has created a few specific issues, such as loss of data in tables. Though not quite ready for the production environment, user feedback is critical for smoothing performance and reliability.
I am not aware of any data loos in tables. Could you please be more specific? Is there any bug number?
Best Regards, Petr

This is a critical problem for me. Unless I can install OpenOffice in 11.4, I can not upgrade to it.

Why should you not be able to install the RPMs from Openoffice.org?

Because that one is different from the Go-oo version that openSUSE has been installing. I want/need the Go version of OO, the one from Novell. If LO is not up to the task, the replacement is not the OO from OOo, but the one from Novell prior to LO.

Go-oo is LibO... or LibO is Go-oo. See: http://go-oo.org/ last paragraph.

Yes. However, the pre-disbanding version was a stable version, whereas the LO was not. Somethings broke and it has taken time to solve.

If it's make/break that you have the Go-OO version, you can always install the last available version using the 11.3 OpenOffice.org repos.... or download it direct from the Go-OO website (assuming the download page still works.... when I checked it earlier today, it was broken).
I honestly think you're making a proverbial mountain out of a mole hill on this. Yes there are bugs in the LibO release. There were bugs in the Go-OO releases (some very annoying ones in past releases of Go-OO). There are bugs in the vanilla OOo releases too. Any hiccups in the LibO provided with 11.4 are unlikely to be as catastrophic as you're imagining.

I know that there are bugs in all versions, I simply want reassurance that LO is production ready software. The announcement said "no".
Ie, I expect the same quality that OOo (Novell version) had before the disbanding.

I've not given it a comprehensive level of testing, but overall in what testing I did do, it's working fine in the 11.4 RC2 and as Andreas pointed out, the bug that started this kerfuffle regarding the data loss in tables is fixed in RC2.
For all intents and purposes, I think we're overall pretty safe to consider LibO the next step in the evolution of Go-OO.

Of course you can install OOo... you get LibO as part of the default install - if you don't want it, you can remove it post install, or change before installing. Installing OOo in openSUSE 11.4 is easy... just download the install from the OO.o website and run the setup script. It installs just fine... adds the menu entries where it's supposed to etc. Worked perfect for me to do this on my 11.4 RC1 (and will test again on RC2).

And I have not found a bugreport or confirmation on this, this might have been slipped in by accident. I already removed this from the news.o.o announcement. I'm investigating further where this statement comes from,

That would be certainly reasuring if confirmed. Please tell us what you learn of this... I really hope that LO can considered ready for production.

I expect the LibreOffice team to evaluate this a bit more now, Andreas

And they just did - this is a duplicate of an already fixed bug for RC2,
