Doesn't Alt+Click+Drag work in gnome to move a window w/o clicking the titlebar? If the machine is old and slow, or if the monitor is small, then try using fvwm instead of Gnome or KDE. Alt + F5 makes the curser stick to an xterm or program display. Moving the mouse moves the xterm. Click the mouse to release the xterm. Very nice.
