You gave me an idea, perhaps I can plug to the modem (it is not called that, it has a peculiar name, what is it... ah, ONT (Optical Network Terminal)); it is fibre, not coax) and listen.
It doesn't make any difference what it's called. It just converts from the transmission medium, fibre in your case, and probably provides management and diagnostic functions, along with VLAN & MPLS support.
