JFYI download.opensuse.org and software.opensuse.org are doing redirecting to mirrors aswell.
Why redirect instead of CNAME?
1. It allows the redirector to check beforehand if a given file is on a mirror before redirection. This is especially helpful if not all mirrors are synced yet. 2. CNAME would force all mirrors to have the same directory structure. 3. You can even play tricks with RAM caching of the mirrors: Some mirrors only get requests for a subset of files which fit in RAM together at the same time.
