3. We can Instant Message with you *in real time* using "micq", which you might even have already installed. If you're really concerned about learning how to use it, just stick with your on-board graphics for now, open up a shell ("terminal") from the comfort of your desktop, type "micq" and you can learn how to run it from there. Then, when you're comfortable Instant Messaging from the command line, we can pick up where we left off, only this time you can troubleshoot in run level 3 *and* at the same time communicate with us.
Video card still installed. micq is already installed. Typed mirq in a shell and got this: _ _/ \_ mICQ (Matt's ICQ clone) version 0.5.0.1 2005-02-28 19:07:10 UTC / \ / \ © 1998-2000 Matthew D. Smith, © 2001-2004 Rüdiger Kuhlmann,

This console uses encoding UTF-8. English (en_US.UTF-8) translation loaded (1211 entries). No valid UIN found. The setup wizard will guide you through the process of setting one up. If you already have an UIN, please enter it. Otherwise, enter 0, and I will request one for you. UIN: You need a password for your new UIN. Password: To prevent typos, please enter your password again. Password: If you are firewalled, you may need to use a SOCKS5 server. If you do, please enter its hostname or IP address. Otherwise, or if unsure, just press return. SOCKS5 server: Setup wizard finished. Please wait until registration has finished. Opening v8 connection to login.icq.com:5190 for new UIN... Opening peer-to-peer connection at localhost:0... ok. Opening scripting FIFO at /home/gil/.micq/scripting... ok. Registration of new UIN refused. I'm sorry, AOL doesn't want to give us a new UIN, probably because of too many new UIN requests from this IP. Please try again later. gil@phred:~> OK, so it did not work. No big deal. I'll try again another day. But where do I find out how to use this program? I hate to ask, but is there an on-line user's guide that will tell me how to start and how to connect to Carl, Lee, Stan, Felix, etc???? Gil
