I understand there are 2 ways of running the network: "ifup" and "KnetworkManager". Ifup is run at bootup automatically and KnetworkManager is under user control. Try installing KnetworkManager in Yast and go to Network device configuration in Yast again. There should be a menu to switch from ifup to Network Manager.
NetworkManager will respect most wired and wireless configurations entered in Yast as well and bring up boot time connections.
but Knetwormanager doesn't hand very well WEP or WPA connections while if-up had no trouble. I have a USR Wireless PCMCIA and i'm using it with ndiswrapper. if-up work with WEP and WPA, but Knetworkmanager tell it support this settings, but isn't able to get up the connection. So i'm using if-up Greetings -- Un Saludo. Carlos Lorenzo Matés
