Trying to run make config for the new kernel gives me a similar error message but this time it's
/usr/i486-linux/bin/ld
I've checked the files exist. Any pointers on what to check?
I've had similar problems. It seems that when uninstalling packages, sometimes symbolic links are left behind (i. e. they point to nowhere). These confuse ldconfig. Check if that's the case and if it is, you can safely delete the obsolete symlinks.
