Patrick, I run SuSE on my Dell Inspiron 7500 with the Super XGA (1400x1050) resolution. Things look really good at that resolution! SuSE 7.0 had the propert X configuration for that display setting. I don't know about the Ultra XGA display X settings, however. Everything runs great on my laptop: I have a 25GB drive in it, and I use GRUB to multi-boot W2K and Linux, as the 7.0 distro LILO could not boot my Linux image as it was set up on the hard disk. I have _not_ yet tried to upgrade my laptop to SuSE 7.1, however, so I don't know how smoothly that installation will go. I run many things on the laptop under Linux: Tomcat, Oracle 8i, and Apache (of course) and all this works just fine. hth, -ronc On Saturday 26 May 2001 19:18, you wrote:
Hi!
I have to choose a laptop for my job. I will use it as a "replacement" to a desktop computer: I will develop on it, run servers, ...
I wonder if there is a difference in quality (other than max resolution) between a 15" Super XGA+ display and a 15" Ultra XGA display.
Also do you think a Dell Inspiron 8000 (1 GHz, ...) is a good choice? Will I get any issue to install Linux?
Thanks for the info!
