I *strongly* recommend that you use the 1-click install to be found here- http://opensuse-community.org/ if you want to have VLC working correctly. I watch TV on my computer using VLC and the only sure way I can get it to work is to use the 1-click install. Worked perfectly for 13.1, 13.2, and Tumbleweed. After using the1-click install, go into YaST and make sure that all the necessary files to view multi-media etc. are installed.
