[opensuse] videolan repos gone?

Hm, that is really strange, download webpage still shows links from that download area, but /pub/ folder does not exist there... Any way, unless you have some specific reason not to, I would encourage you to use packman repositories for vlc and all the supporting codecs. yeah, it's always bad news when a pub is closed. ;-/ Thanks for the packman hint - I think I'll wait some time whether the videolan guys restore the data. Have a nice day, Berny -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I *strongly* recommend that you use the 1-click install to be found here- http://opensuse-community.org/ if you want to have VLC working correctly. I watch TV on my computer using VLC and the only sure way I can get it to work is to use the 1-click install. Worked perfectly for 13.1, 13.2, and Tumbleweed. Interestingly, the 1-click installs distinguish between the KDE and Gnome desktops ... while I am user neither - and just want the thing going for VLC; strange. However, this still doesn't answer the question why the Linux version suddenly disappeared from "download.videolan.org". Serves you right then for not using either KDE or Gnome :-D .

No, it doesn't, and I cannot answer because I have downloaded and installed the files directly from packman or recently now use the 1-click install. But, all this does raise the question of why are those NOT using KDE or Gnome DEs not catered for in the 1-click install facility? openSUSE, no matter which DE is used with it, uses the RPM package manager. I notice that there is only a 0.4Kb difference between the RPMs for these 2 DEs - which I suspect would be solely due to the icons/widgets/whizzbangs (whoever came up with 'widgets' ought to be tested for IQ!) used in them. So, the question: what do others who want to use the other available DEs in openSUSE need to do to get their multi-media working?

Thank you Carlos but who ever goes to these fora? A person starts Firefox and sees the entry "openSUSE" under the URL box; Thinks, "Aha, there could be some documentation on how to have multimedia working" and clicks on the entry -- and Behold! there is shown "openSUSE Documentation"! The person is in raptures - until s/he finds that it is virtually impossible to see anything useful re multimedia except - when by accident, or in a drunken or enraged state - s/he stumbles across the words "opensuse-community.org" and then comes across http://opensuse-community.org/ where the 1-click install appears. Watcha talking about Patrick?! Where does "*utu" come into this? Carlos indicates that this multimedia is covered in the fora so why not add it to the bit where the 1-click install appears for those using KDE or GNOME desktops so that those who don't use KDE/GNOME are also able to have access to multimedia? Because the forun is not controlled by SUSE lawyers? :-? ;-) But the one-clicks are outside of the forums and outside of openSUSE. Yes, it should cover other things than KDE/Gnome one clicks, but it doesn't, and there is no report link. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

Any way, unless you have some specific reason not to, I would encourage you to use packman repositories for vlc and all the supporting codecs. I switched to full packman because of some conflicting packages couple of years ago, but had no reason to regret about it ever since.
