alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx
I don't know if this line has any effect. When I used in the past had no noticeable result.
In rc.config I did nothing, but I found a line:
INITRD_MODULES="aic7xxx usbcore"
I don't know when aic7xxx was added.
This line is generated when you install SuSE. I don't if the config tools modify it. In any case, this is used by a script called mk_initrd, a utility to be used to configure your boot process.
Try this:
- install the new kernel (you did this already, right?) - run 'mk_initrd' - run 'lilo' - re-boot the machine.
With 7.2, be careful....Seems more modular. I managed to get the rootfs not found etc message when doing this (no big deal, just boot off of CD 2 and enter linux yast1, then start installation, boot installed system). If you doubt that scsi_hostadapter line, ignore it for now. In /etc/rc.config find the line called INITRD, this will list your initrd modules that need to be loaded before the rest of the load. In the appropriate place, along with the other modules, enter this: ide-scsi Save and the type: mk_initrd Then lilo reboot StarTux
