Another possibility is to do:
$ mkdir /tmp/dvd-mount-point $ mount /dev/cdrom /tmp/dvd-mount-point
And then repeat the above with /media/cdrom changed to /tmp/dvd-mount-point.
What you write above gives me access to the DVD media ?
At least I have access to my 11.0 DVD media now
Could I ask you to show me the "repeat" part ?. Why is it necessary to do the repeat for the cdrom ?
I don't think so, it is just a name.
I wonder why I have the
Error 15: File not found
You should explain when and where you get that message. I can guess it is a grub message, when you try to boot. Then, on "info grub" you get the info:
I get this message just when the computer starts booting up.
] 15 : File not found ] This error is returned if the specified file name cannot be found, ] but everything else (like the disk/partition info) is OK.
It probably means that the kernel image or the initrd image are not there; either they are not there (not installed), or the name is typed incorrectly in grub menu.
If grub, anything must have changed it due to my removement.
Guessing again, grub menu is pointing to the last updated kernel image, whereas if you restored the kernel from the dvd, you have an older version.
I did not restore the kernel from the DVD
You have to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst, find the entry you use, something like:
###Don't change this comment - YaST2 identifier: Original name: linux### title openSUSE 11.1 - 2.6.27.7-4 root (hd0,7) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.27.7-4-pae root=/dev/disk/by-label/160_test resume=/dev/disk/by-label/320_swap splash=silent showopts vga=0x317 initrd /initrd-2.6.27.7-4-pae
replace (mutandis mutandi) /vmlinuz-2.6.27.7-4-pae with /vmlinuz, and /initrd-2.6.27.7-4-pae with /initrd. Should work.
What is (mutandis mutandi) ? My menu.lst shows this: # Modified by YaST2. Before the culprit has been found there's no chance to boot normal.
What say Mads.
I can also wait for the 11.1, as I can access this HDD, and copy the /home to the new HDD I'll use for 11.1
Next time, when you uninstall anything, think twice, and have a real hard look at what is going to be uninstalled. Don't just press "enter, enter, enter". This is not windows!
I'm not sure if I mentioned windows, but I might not remembering that. -- Med venlig hilsen / Best regards Erik Jakobsen eja@urbakken.dk Registered Linux user #114875 - http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
